LMG Marin to design Scandlines' new RoPax – world’s largest 0-emission ferry
LMG Marin is pleased to announce that we have entered into a basic design contract with Cemre Shipyard for the Scandlines newbuiling project.
The ferry will stand at 147m long as the world’s largest 0-emissions capable ferry. The ship will serve between Rødby, Denmark and Puttgarden in Germany. This route is one of the key logistic corridors between Europe and Scandinavia. The route is known as the “bee line” to reflect the fact ships are constantly moving North/South to ensure 24/7 service. The ferry is targeting freight transport and will accommodate 140 passengers onboard as well as up to 1,200 freight lane meters on two separate vehicle decks. It will feature an innovative hybrid diesel/battery electric propulsion that will allow to link Rødby and Puttgarden on 2 different modes: either fully relying on plug-in battery power at an average speed of 10 knots or on a plug-in hybrid mode at an average speed of 16 knots. The design will set new standards when it comes to efficiency.
The ferry has been jointly designed by Scandlines in-house naval architects and engineers as well as with LMG Marin – a leader in sustainable ship design. Naval architect Johannes Johannesson has been assisting Scandlines team thanks to his deep experience with similar ferries.
We are very proud to be part of this ground-breaking project. This is also the first time that an LMG design materializes into a shipbuilding project with Cemre Shipyard.
