FANAFJORD gets a new life in Canada

LMG-ferry goes to Canada 1

LMG Marin have provided retrofit ship design documentation for the NORTHUMBERLAND (formerly FANAFJORD), a double-ended ferry retrofitted at Fiskerstrand Verft in Norway. This ferry was originally designed by LMG Marin as an LNG car ferry for Fjord1 operating the Haljem-Sandvikvåg route for many years.

NORTHUMBERLAND will replace the M/V HOLIDAY ISLAND  that is serving the route between Wood Islands, PEI, and Caribou, Nova Scotia on Canada.

The retrofitting includes machinery upgrades with new main diesel engines featuring SCR systems and a new emergency generator. Safety enhancements encompass a new MES system and an additional MOB boat. To accommodate its new destinations, we’ve modified the bulbous bows and fenders while maintaining optimal performance. Moreover, the passenger deck has been revitalized with an updated layout, kiosk, galley, and sanitary facilities. The Northumberland has also been adjusted to comply with Transport Canada regulations and current DNV Rules.

NORTHUMBERLAND is currently crossing the Atlantic Ocean to her new home at the east coast of Canada.
